Linda
Drake resides in Colorado and is the "leader" of our troupe.
A bonafide "artist-at-large", she makes her living these days
creating beautiful screenprinted items, including women's apparel and
tote bags using her own hand-drawn designs. Not only is Linda talented,
she is also a lovely person. I hope that I will get to meet her in person
some day.
Linda's
theme was "what moves you?" Uncovering what is inside of us
is always a challenge. What moves us is sometimes so obscure that we don't
even realize that it's a motivating factor. For me, it's my emotions.
I have always been a very emotive person, and have made the majority of
my choices based on how things "felt" (though not always for
the best, I suppose). I'm also "sensitive" to others' emotions,
often picking up on things that they project. It can be overwhelming but
it is also a gift. I know exactly what a "gut" feeling means...
I get them all the time. If only I listened to my gut more often (instead
of just feeding it too much chocolate).
I
thoroughly enjoyed working on this doll and journal. With each new project
there is an awakening within me, both creatively and spiritually. The
journal work started with a pencil sketch, which I then scanned and then
altered in Photoshop and printed out each emotion on photo paper.
Inspiration
for these came during a vulnerable time for me, while still mourning my
mother's passing, and contending with some emotionally charged issues
with my sister. This piece helped me tap into a deeper part of myself,
and essentially helped me heal.
